Every member has a vote in the election of local union officers and board members. Members also vote on contract approval or rejection. These rights are guaranteed by the International Union Constitution and the Bill of Rights for Members. Certain areas of this website are restricted to members only. You must be a dues paying member to access the restricted areas. Union membership provides additional benefits for members. The AFSCME Advantage Program is an umbrella of many different money-saving programs for members only. Most are free with membership, others are at greatly lower costs than you might find elsewhere. Unions dues are 1% of your monthly gross salary. Dues are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Dues paid to AFSCME, however, may qualify as business expenses and may be deductible in limited circumstances subject to various restrictions imposed by the Internal Revenue Service. |
